Research & Development

Research and Development Division:

Nuclear medicine is an indispensable specialty in modern medicine, which is firmly based on unshakable laws of mathematics, chemistry and physics. Continuous research and development is an integral part of the discipline. When the Institute of Nuclear Medicine was conceptualized, it was done with the aim of becoming a center of excellence in Nuclear Medicine techniques in the country. To reach that goal a division named “Research & Development Division” was formed in the National Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (NINMAS) by the approval of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC).
The main purpose of this division is to mobilize the research activities of this Institute, as well as to enhance the ongoing research activities. The broad objectives of the division are:
• To improve and upgrade Nuclear Medicine facilities at NINMAS.
• To stimulate and conduct research activities.
• To coordinate & standardize the activities of nuclear medicine services.
•To assist the ongoing research projects, research oriented paper submission and formulation/preparation research proposals.
• To archive all scientific works being done at the institute.

The institute has a significant volume of both large and small research and development programs. Development is a continuous process at the institute, which aims at upgrading the overall quality of nuclear medicine in the country. These include development of local manpower through post-graduate courses, orientation courses, training and workshops, quality control programs for technical procedures and instruments. Senior members of the institute deliver lectures to different courses of different universities as visiting part-time guest lecturers.
Institutional Medical Research Ethics Committee (MREC) was formed on 2014 at NINMAS including 15 expert members of different disciplines. By 2016, five meetings have been held on submitted projects. Ethical approval by MREC has been being provided after reviewing in nuclear medicine related projects.
